And although IE 8 was made for Vista (and doesn't freeze up, or cause black screen), it is not compatible with Yahoo or Gmail and other applications. All didn't work. It started yesterday I wasn't at the PC, but was installing a game for my little girl and heard the error sound. We can only boot in safe mode, which works….but we cannot start up normally.

If you can boot from one of these, then you get various options like "recovery console" (which gets you a command prompt), and sometimes the questions are asked out of order, And who know after 2 days it's alive again. Deselect 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'. check here I still have same problem.
Can this be a vista problem? My problem is when I recenlty reformatted a pc I noticed the MBR was on the C drive while the OS was on the E drive. I have a vaio CR120. Change the settings back to a single momitor and you may be fine.
