I shut down ZoneAlarm, and the HD was being accessed a lot less, however it hadn't gone completely idle. My friends also suffer from the same problem. Would it still be useful in any way? Basically, my hard drive is constantly being accessed. Bonuses
As long as your CPU usage is low when idle, it shouldn't be an issue. On heavily fragmented systems, it can take a long time. activity stopped. The drive spins up at similar times each hour.

It doesn't seem to interfere with the functioning of the computer, but I'm just worried that this could be damaging in the long term. - It's a stupid piece of software called Seagate Dashboard, and it automatically installs itself in your 'puter when you plug in a Seagate external hard drive.
- The next simple thing to check is to eject your cd/dvd drives and leave them open and empty.
- I shut down ZA, uninstalled it, ran CCleaner, installed Comodo, and voila, the internittent accessing is gone!
- The computer is brand new.
- If it's running a full filesystem scan, then no surprise, it's going to access the HD a lot.

you might also want to get yourself a hard drive analysing tool from your hard drive manufacturer and test to make sure your disk doesn't have any bad sectors.
