This went on for a couple of weeks, then yesterday for the first time, I couldn't save in Word.
I have used repair and I have reinstalled to no avail. Just open both the old document and a new, blank document, and start copying parts from old to new. This listed some potential issues and gave me a choice to resolve specific issues that were identified.
