I have some english episodes. What is confusing is that some brands of DVD player only playback DVD+R discs, it was a choice they made years ago, some makers went with + and others went -. If the DVD player does not support AVI, it will fail to play AVI files even if we have successfully burn AVI to DVD disc. Though some newer DVD players can play AVI files, it only plays AVI which is encoded with DivX. anchor

Your player can likely play simple XviD files but probably cannot play those that include use of Qpel or GMC...
