Either way the Google link seems to be the way to find it, although I haven't tried it yet. I think this is an important issue for the following reason: If you lose your original Works CD box with the product key lable on it, and then you decide to Microsoft OEM Numbers I am no fan of Microsoft for a lot of different reasons which I won't go through here. As much as microsoft charges for software,,it would behoove everyone who uses it to hide a few copies of those codes in a few very safe places huh?? see it here

as for checking your registry, you wiped that out when you zero'd out your drive. I know how to find the Windows XP Installation CD Key, and also how to find the Operating System Software Number. However, the average guy who just files the CD away after a successful installation may very well separate the actual CD from the little sheet with the OEM regsitration number. my system was completely replaced not too long ago and i returned the wrong cd by mistake with others that had been replaced for me by the computer manufacturer.
