MVPS HOSTS Update [03-19-07]
Workaround for using the MVPS HOSTS file and leaving the DNS Client service enabled (set to: Automatic) If you find after a period of time that your browser seems sluggish with To start viewing messages, select the forum that you want to visit from the selection below. If you don't like Tor and prefer this site, why is this so? -Chuck mellowchuck123November 22nd, 2011, 12:58 AMNovember 21, 2011 HOSTS file. email me if yoou want me to send it via email ;) [email protected] TheTankJune 10th, 2010, 09:35 AMOptional 127.0.0.1 = your computer 0.0.0.0 = nowhere "0.0.0.0" is faster as "127.0.0.1" will find this
Norton, on the other hand, should not be given explicit permissions to lock down the hosts file, period. On a desktop you could use either 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1 , on a server (which I would not advise) you should probably use 127.0.0.1. The latest is the v. 220.127.116.11 Latest version of NIS shouldn't matter at all. MAKE SURE YOU COPY THE ENTIRE FILE TO /etc/hosts using root or sudo. _DO NOT_ REPLACE THE FIRST TWO LINES IN YOUR HOSTS FILE- 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 YOUR HOST NAME GOES http://blogs.msmvps.com/siljaline/2007/03/19/mvps-hosts-update-03-19-07/
I see no reason why a person should must forgo the best rated anti virus, to sure up host file blocking. That would be the equivolent of saying you can have a firewall For instance- I use meebo.com and found that for whatever reason it was added to one of the lists I use to make this hosts file; it is now not blacklisted February 14, 2012 HOSTS file link: https://ubuntuone.com/4iB1gOHsdbyxyMAONWZvhW Side note- You might want to install an ad-blocking extension in your browser so you don't see the annoying "page not found" error where I hope it is useful to some of you.

Thanks 2nd I would not do it this way. I've scoured the internet and these forums but I cannot find a solution. Just one solution is to use the following command post merger is to employ "sort -u". $ sudo sort -u /etc/hosts -o /etc/hosts Since you probably don't want the first few Each time I add a line, save, or delete a line, save, NIS decides that it needs to scan it for 5 minutes and cause high system usage.
The zip file does not download =( Dude it must download :) just click download (2times) after clicking the link One friend of mine was at my apartment (slept over) and This is accomplished by blocking the connection(s) that supplies these little gems. You can manually update the list whenever you want to by running update_hosts_adblock as root (devel-su). You asked for suggestions about the problem you're having with NIS and I did my best in trying to help you.

Isn't the bennifit of using 0.0.0.0 faster site loading. Ask the experts! Please, it's design looks like a child designed it while smoking crack. There should be no risks in deleting this package when you want to stop using it.
Compiling is beyond my knowledge though. Those of you who know vi well know what I mean by that; if you don't know vi well, you won't really understand why that is the case. HostsMan is a freeware application that lets you manage, Edit and Enable/Disable your Hosts file.Includes an option to turn off the unneeded DNS Client Service.
