Seems to me that the additional items in Windows 10 we have already adapted to in 7 and 8.1 re calendars, music, photos etc so in hindsight why would I want My PC quit playing through the speakers but will with the headphones in the same green Jack. I’ve had a few where there were ports on the front and back but only one set of them worked. Started.Billy3The system volume is not on so long as it doesn't recognize an audio device.Have you tried all the audio plugs-in? Verify that the volume knob on the speakers is turned up enough to produce a sound.

Also you could use a third party driver scanning tool like Driver Talent. Most devices will shut off their internal speakers when an external speaker is plugged in.

Generally they are color coded, but I got a set of speakers once that didn't work in it's matching color. Those are just a few ideas to try to get some help without breaking the bank. Just downloaded windows 10 , my speakers work but when I plug in my headphones they don't work why? What happened?
