i would check to see that the cpu fan is moving and is seated...could be the system shutting down do to old thermal paste and it over heating. To do this just make sure your monitor is plugged into whichever video output that lets you see the boot screens and press (F2 on most Dell systems) to enter setup. I did a clean install of windows 7, which had enough problems as it was. - I'm certain this doesn't have to do with the operating system because there's no video output before the OS actually begins booting, and the problem only occurred after updating video drivers.

Is it the videocard that's sick?PS: I tried to download latest driver for Nvidia for win7, but they made the colours on my monitor very strange (too much red) so I Power off, Starts up fine.
